Camping Insights started with a simple frustration: too many gear reviews online were written by people who’d clearly never pitched the tent they were describing, let alone slept in it through a cold, wet night. We wanted a place where campers could get straightforward, field-tested advice — the kind you’d get from a friend who’s actually been rained on, not a spec sheet copied from a manufacturer’s website.
That’s still the mission today. Every guide on this site is built around genuine outdoor experience, practical testing, and a healthy respect for the fact that gear behaves very differently in a store aisle than it does on a mountainside at 2 a.m.
Our Story
Camping Insights began as a small notebook of trip logs — tent setups that worked, stakes that snapped in rocky ground, sleeping bags that left us cold at 3 a.m. despite their glowing temperature ratings. After enough weekends spent troubleshooting gear failures in the field, it became obvious that a lot of other campers were running into the exact same problems, usually because the advice available online was either too generic or clearly written by someone who’d never actually used the product being reviewed.
What started as personal trip notes slowly turned into detailed write-ups, then comparison guides, and eventually a full site dedicated to one goal: helping people spend less time fighting their gear and more time actually enjoying the outdoors. We’ve pitched tents in downpours, slept on iced-over ground to test sleeping pads, and worn through more than a few pairs of “waterproof” boots that weren’t, all so the guides here reflect what actually happens outside rather than what a marketing page promises.
