Affiliate Disclosure
Transparency about how Camping Insights earns money — and how that never changes what we recommend.
The Short Version
Camping Insights participates in affiliate programs, including the Amazon Associates Program. This means that when you click certain links on our site and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission — at no additional cost to you. We only recommend gear we’d genuinely suggest to a friend, regardless of whether it earns us anything.
1. What Is Affiliate Marketing?
Affiliate marketing is a common way that independent websites like ours fund the time, testing, and research that goes into producing free content. When you click a link to a retailer such as Amazon and complete a purchase, that retailer may pay us a small commission. This comes out of the retailer’s marketing budget, not your pocket — the price you pay is the same whether you use our link or go directly to the site yourself.
2. Amazon Associates Program
Camping Insights is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.
Product links throughout our guides, comparison tables, and “shop” buttons may include our Amazon Associates tracking ID. This allows Amazon to attribute qualifying purchases to us, which is how the program pays out commissions.
3. Other Affiliate Relationships
In addition to Amazon, we may participate in affiliate programs with other outdoor retailers, gear manufacturers, or booking platforms mentioned in our content. Wherever a link on our site is a paid affiliate link, it falls under the scope of this disclosure, regardless of which specific program or retailer is involved.
4. Our Editorial Standards Don’t Change
Earning a commission never influences which products we recommend or how we rate them. Our review and comparison process is built around genuine outdoor use, verified specifications, and honest assessment of strengths and weaknesses — not which retailer or brand pays the highest commission rate.
Field-Tested
We test or research every product before recommending it.
Independent Ratings
Commission rates never factor into a product’s rating or ranking.
No Pay-for-Placement
Brands cannot pay to be featured or reviewed favorably.
5. Where You’ll See Affiliate Links
- Product mentions within articles and buying guides
- Comparison tables and “Shop Now” or “Check Price” buttons
- Product images linked to a retailer’s product or search page
- Recommended gear lists and roundups
We aim to make affiliate links reasonably identifiable in context (for example, through nearby “Shop” buttons or product boxes), consistent with FTC guidance that disclosures be clear and easy to notice.
6. Sponsored Content & Free Products
From time to time, we may receive a free product from a brand for testing purposes, or be compensated for a sponsored post. Any sponsored content will be clearly labeled as such. Receiving a free product does not guarantee a positive review — our assessment reflects our actual experience with the item.
7. Questions About This Disclosure
If you have any questions about our affiliate relationships or how we evaluate products, we’re happy to talk about it.
